Play is a child's work. Research has shown that children learn best through play. Play develops many skills including social skills, fine motor and critical thinking. Students need more opportunities to explore and experiment so they can learn to think creatively and critically. Students don't need more worksheets. While these have their place, children learn best through doing, trying and making mistakes. Materials requested in this grant will allow students to understand their world and kindergarten concepts in a concrete way. For example, they will need to think outside to box to learn about balance and how different engineering concepts work. Being allowed to play and explore first thing in the morning will help students have a successful start to each and every day.
