The Sound of Music
Funded Jan 15, 2015My students didn't know what recorders were when I told them what was in the box. When I took the recorders and books out and showed my students, they were very excited. Immediately, the students called them flutes. The first questions were "Can we take these home? and Are we going to play these?" When I said "Yes" they were even more excited.
How my class and I used the resources were that my students played their recorders often. The students learned how to read music and play their instruments. I would demonstrate how to play and then they would echo me. We would learn the songs measure by measure in order to learn the notes. They play the recorders much better than I anticipated.
This project boosted my students' learning in that they were self motivated to practice at home to play better. One of my students who struggles academically, excelled playing the recorder. He practices at home and often volunteers to play the songs for the class. I was surprised how the class took to learning how to play an instrument. They all wanted to show the class how well they learned the songs that they practiced at home. My students were responsible for bringing the recorders and books from school to home and back. I believe with this foundation, many of my students will continue in music classes as they advance through school. Music is so important in a person's life. Thank you giving my students this opportunity.”

Author, Author
Funded Sep 15, 2014My students were thrilled to receive the materials for making books. They were curious when I brought out the heavy duty stapler. This really helps binding their books together. One enthusiastic student had her family donate blank hardcover books for their major project, Fractured Fairy Tales. Students are using the resources to work like authors learning the process of book writing and publishing. After reading a story about author/ illustrators, students are excited to work on their Fractured Fairy Tales. They are in the process of writing them now. Students are on different stages in the process. Students who are further along, assist the others to explain the steps the are on. They always ask to work on them in their free time. Creativity is alive with the project "Author, Author."”

Funded May 22, 2007Thank you for donating the resources my students need to complete our class newsletter. The students will have a great opportunity to see what it is like to work like a journalist. They will be truly excited when their newsletter is published and their final product is distributed to the school community.
