  • Write to the Music

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you donors for your generous support for the students in my classroom. WE are learning to read and respond to informational texts by practicing in our Read to Write skills books from Scholastic.

Many of my students are beginning to write to respond to informational text because of the practice books I was able to purchase.

Now the second part of the project, the Bluetooth speaker, has made a world of difference when presenting multimedia lessons. My students can hear the sound coming from the presentation. They taught me how to use it and connect it to my system. They enjoy lessons since they are audible. It is in use everyday.”

  • And We Are Back!

    Funded Aug 1, 2021

Again, thank you for helping my classroom with our new scissors and math magazines. Our scissors are so great. The students are able to do more projects with better cutting. My students enjoy working in their math magazines. They challenge each other when doing the puzzles and activities in them. They are getting to practice skills and concepts in a fun way.

My students were excited to get their math magazines. They were even more excited about the scissors, since the old dull metal scissors provided by school didn't work well.

We can now do more projects with the scissors.

As the year continues, our class will continue to create with the new scissors and practice math skills.”

  • Mouse, Mice Navigate

    Funded Oct 14, 2021

Wow! What a difference! My students were given Chromebooks to use during the shut down and now are able to use them in the physical classroom. As I observed the students, I saw that they were having difficulty navigating various programs necessary to complete assignments. Now with the computer mouse, students are finding their starting place faster and with ease.

Most of my students wanted to use a computer mouse. The ones purchased through this grant are wireless, which makes it easier to transport from school to home and back. No tangled mess of a wire.

It was because of one student, that made me decide to submit this project. He always wanted to borrow a mouse. I only had one extra. Other students saw how he was using it and wanted to use a mouse as well, therefore I wanted more students to have the opportunity to have access to using a computer mouse.”

  • Creating Memories

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

My students and I thank all of you for donating to my project. We are looking forward to creating the school yearbook. My students have been taking photos on spirit days and are excited to download and see the pictures. As leaders, this project is a great way to take pride in the school.”

  • Creating Fractured Fairy Tales as an Author/Illustrator

    Funded Aug 29, 2017

Thank you so much for the blank books. My students are in various stages of creating their books. They are being so creative in the writing process of an author/illustrator. They can't wait writing time in our schedule, since they know they get to work on their books.

When my students first saw the boxes of books they just said, "What are those? What are they for?" When some students realized that they were for the Fractured Fairy Tales they became very excited. Many of my students had sibling/s in my class before and remembered what their sibling/s had written. As I got the students motivated for the project, they went hog wild in their writing. As the first students got to the point in the project to actually write in the books, the other students began working faster. The students want to get to their final copy.

As a continuation of the project, my students will read their books to lower grade classrooms. It will build confidence in my students to share their work. It will also motivate the students that will be in my class next year on what they will get to do. I also hope my students will want to write another book as a sequel or just enjoy writing for pleasure.”

  • Supplies to Get the Year Started Right!!

    Funded Aug 24, 2017

Wow is all I can say. My students love the supplies that were part of this project. We have pencils all of the time, so the students aren't always looking around for pencils. The plastic portfolio folders are awesome. I was planning on using them for the students unfinished work, but they are being used in another capacity. Our new reading series has pamphlet type books. My students place these "books" in the plastic folders and this way the books are being kept in goods condition while in the desks. My students are loving their composition books also. They use them for writing important essays. The writing is kept in these composition books, so students are seeing their progress in writing.

When my students saw the materials for the first time, they were very excited. They got to choose their own color folder. They also were impressed with the number of pencils we received. They like using their composition books too.

As the year progresses, I know my class will continue using all of the materials from this project. I'm hoping that at the end of the year the students reflect on their writing from their composition books.”

  • Extra, Extra Read All About It!!!

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

What has Scholastic News done for my classroom? My students are very interested in the articles in the magazines. My students enjoy reading them. The students' discussions have become more detailed after reading the high interest articles. Many students have gone to the library after reading an article to learn more about a topic.

I have some reluctant readers. These students reread the articles on their own. The high interest stories are a motivating factor to having the students read more. I also have the students pair up to read and answer the questions provided. These questions will help my student prepare for their Standardized tests at the end of the year.

Finally, as various topics are introduced, my students are able to relate these articles to their own experiences. The other connection they make is relating articles with other reading materials read during the course of the year. They can see how these stories are relevant in their lives.

Thank you for getting Scholastic News in the hands of my students.”

  • We Need Air!!

    Funded Sep 10, 2016

Thank you again for contributing to our project. With our new air compressor and needles, we are able to inflate any of our Physical Education equipment at a moments notice. We don't have to go scrounging around the school looking for a pump and needles to inflate the equipment. When a ball gets low, we just pump it up.

My students were excited when they saw the air compressor. Many students had never seen one. They were amazed at how it worked and how quickly it inflated the balls.

The air compressor will last several years to come and other classes will get the benefits from it. I will be able to pump up PE equipment anytime. My class will always have air.”

  • Creating Fractured Fairy Tales as an Author/Illustrator

    Funded Feb 18, 2016

    Dear Donor,

Wow is all I can say about how my students used the blank books. My students worked so hard to complete their Fractured Fairy Tales. There was a big variety of fairy tales represented. Even my students who are not known for completing and turning in assignments in a timely fashion, completed their book before the due date. I believe the students enjoyed the process of creating their books. I notice students creating their own books with other topics on their own time. They took pride in their books. My students were proud when they shared their books with their family at Open House.

When the blank books arrived, the students began taking the assignment seriously. They couldn't wait to begin their final copy. They wanted to work on this project at anytime they had extra time. They worked with perseverance to complete their book.

The next steps are for the students to read their books with other classes. I especially want them to read to the 2nd grade students, so they can see examples of what is expected of them next year.”

  • Let's Get Active

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

    Dear Donor,

My class and I can't thank you enough for the donation to the project "Let's Get Active." Every morning I start the class with physical education. In the past it was just stretching, exercising, and jogging. Now everyday is a different experience. As I meet my class, they see which ball I am carrying and I hear them saying, "Oh, today we are playing ______," depending on what I bring out. I have seen a big difference in the skill levels of my students. They are playing the games at recess and lunch to practice their skills. The games they play at PE are becoming more competitive, because their skills have improved. There are also less arguments because they are playing by the rules. They seem to be enjoying themselves.

The reaction from my students was priceless when the equipment came. They were so excited. They couldn't believe the amount of equipment we got for our room. They couldn't wait to get started.

The next steps are to have the students continue to practice skills and play by the rules of the games they are exposed to during the instruction of PE. I see them practicing on their own time to improve. They are proud of themselves because they see the improvement in their own skills and the skills of their peers. They are enthusiastic about PE now.”
