As my students work to expand their English vocabularies and writing skills, the Chromebooks will let them share their writing with others through student blogs and digital pen-pals. This will be extremely motivating for my students and prepare them to be 21st century communicators. Chromebooks will also give my students access to free visual dictionaries. This will give my fourth graders with limited English the chance to clarify new words and practice being independent learners. In fourth grade students spend much time learning about where we live and what it means to be a world citizen. Some of my students have never visited another state and find it difficult to picture where we are in the world. I have introduced them to Google Maps on my computer and they are so fascinated with exploring the world around them using this digital tool. Chromebooks in my classroom would allow me to take my students on virtual field trips through Google Maps and free digital exchanges with other fourth grade classes around the country. Finally, Chromebooks will prepare my students to be 21st century innovators through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). My students come to me with a huge range of math skills. Some are ready to jump into long division on day one, while others are still working on basic subtraction. Technology in the classroom will help me give all of the students in my room meaningful practice in Mathematics through digital resources. Chromebooks will also fuel my students’ current interest in finding creative solutions to engineering challenges. They love to plan, test, and build with physical materials. Chromebooks will allow them to extend these STEM interests with free learning-to-code resources. Partner with me to prepare my students to be 21st century world changers.
