Money Time!
Funded Dec 4, 2024People often love the idea of receiving gifts for any and all occasions. However, there is something very special about a child receiving a gift that is unexpected yet appreciated. Class 501, received a new large area rug, along with manipulatives and stools. These new tools have become a staple for learning in our classroom.
Many people believe that area rugs are used by early elementary students opposed to upper elementary students. Well, this fifth grade class jumps at the chance to sit and or lay or the area rug. The rug has become an area where students meet in groups, give presentation and is also used as a map due to its display of the continents. In addition, the five stools are also very much appreciated. During our circles time, they are the first seat to be occupied. They also allow us the teachers to meet with groups in narrow spaces.
Overall, the gifts are very much appreciated. They are used daily and are loved by both staff and students. Class 501 thanks every donor for reaching out and giving us new tools for learning.”

In the area of mathematics, the supplies are being used to create arrays and area models. In the area of writing, students are able to create covers that are brilliant and elaborate. In the area of reading, students have been utilizing the sticky notes to annotate the text.
Your generosity and willingness to give students in need keeps our classroom going and growing. The students appreciate your kindness and the teachers joy is unwavering. Thank you for all you have done. It is greatly appreciated.”

We Can Succeed!
Funded Sep 7, 2023We received your donation for our much appreciated project, which consist of faux money and an amazing rug depicting the seven continents and the five oceans. During the day students are learning about financial literacy by engaging in money earning opportunities. They learn the value of goods and products as well as services. This enable students to have a clear understanding of how society works when dealing with money.
When the goods arrived the students were ecstatic about the bright hue that illuminated the continents on the rug. Now they can name the continents without looking. The rug is responsible for expanding their geographic knowledge. As well as their knowledge of the Earth.
The rug and the money are greatly appreciated. Next we will use the money to solve day to day math equations. So again, thank you for your support.”

Funded Nov 2, 2021You have brought a special gift to my class. A gift that turns the heads of adult, students and all staff. This gift is bright, comfortable and unique to the school. This descriptions is so elaborate because it causes the faces of my students to glow. The gift I speak of, is the gift that seems so simple but have done so much. These gifts are the floor seats.
In the face of the pandemic, students were forced to sit in a straight row, while social distancing. Often times, they had to sit at a desk four hours straight. Now with the floor seats, they are able to sit in comfortable chairs while engaging in guided learning.
For this simple but very important gift, I thank you and appreciate your much needed support.”

It’s Time to Read
Funded Oct 21, 2021The students at Mayda Cortiella P.S.75, in Brooklyn New York, received the classroom donation of books open heartedly. They were amazed at the unlimited amount of fiction and nonfiction text they now have access to. The class received books form level G to P which enables our struggling readers as well as our advanced reader to have an opportunity to select a text they find interesting. It is important for students to embrace the subject area of reading in order to accomplish success in all other academic areas. This donation made it possible. Students are able to practice reading skills ranging from inferencing, comparing and contrasting, understanding characters and many more. Thanks to you, this donation is overwhelming appreciated and will go unforgotten.”

Funded Nov 8, 2019Once again your donations have made it possible for inner city students to feel proud of their classroom. Your donations have made it possible for a large area rug, projecting the the 50 states, to be placed in the middle of the classroom . This area has become the focal point for learning and students are proud to have this space. In addition, to the rug your donations were also responsible for the bright floor chairs that are marveled by all that pass by. The chairs have created a space where students feel free to independently read their books and get lost in their stories. Again, thank you for all of your donations and please know you have inspired my students, by showing them that giving can make a world of a difference.”

Literary Lounge
Funded Oct 2, 2017The students of P.S.75 Mayda Cortiella are bright young minds who enjoy engaging in new experiences that many literary text can bring to the classroom. Thanks to you they have an abundance of text to select from that will help enhance their literary skills. The books that were donated were kid friendly, vibrant and full of character skills that will allow the students the ability to grow their thinking about literary text.
Many of the students, because of your generous donation have moved in their reading levels. This is solely due to students exposure to the multiple characters that are available in the text provided. For instance, books such as Stink, Junie B., A to Z mysteries and Captain Underpants provide a vast amount of character study that makes reading interesting for children.
In addition to being able to engage in character study, students are also able to engage in deep conversation about the characters in the text. Through conversation they are able to improve their understanding of making prediction and inferences. These two skill can be difficult for students if they are not provided the proper text.
Again we reiterate how appreciative we are of your donations to the students of Mayda Cortiella P.S.75's students. Children, as you know are the future of this great nation. We must reassure they receive the foundation needed to succeed.”
