Funded Mar 10, 2022The Covid-19 pandemic affected everyone in our school community. The sudden closing of schools and the disruptions in routines affected some more than others in ways that are only now coming to light. We are seeing students who are disconnected and disengaged, who don't have the skills or strategies to cope with anxiety and stress. Supporting our students' well-being has become just as important as closing the academic gap. One significant outcome of the pandemic is the recognition of the importance of social-emotional learning as part of our daily routine.
To support students who were not able to self-regulate, I introduced glitter jars and mindfulness activities. Because of your generous donation, students were able to make their very own self-regulation tool that is portable and that they can use whenever they're feeling overwhelmed. Teaching mindfulness and SEL together helped students manage their emotions more effectively, resulting in the ability to get back to learning.”
