Unlock the Clues! Break Open the "Atoms Escape Box!"

Thank you so much for your kind donations to our science classroom. Because of your support, I was able to make an amazing first impression with my students! We began the year with review of prior knowledge, which can be boring if the kids have retained that knowledge. However, reviewing with the "Escape Boxes" you made possible, made this so much fun! All students had seen the content before, and nearly everyone was able to pitch in and help answer the questions. Starting with review material fit this activity well. The students weren't trying to handle extremely difficult content AND the logistics of an escape room at the same time.

When the students first realized they would be playing a game in class, they were excited. Once I explained that solving the questions revealed lock combinations that lead to candy, they couldn't wait to begin! The students worked together well and the learning also served as an icebreaker.

I will definitely use the locks, lock boxes, and whiteboards you provided for us for review games in the future. This time around, I split the class in half (some worked on a microscope lab while others did this escape room) because I thought two teams of six would keep everyone engaged (as opposed to two teams of twelve). This activity worked so well that I would like to expand it by purchasing another set of locks/boxes so the entire class could play at the same time.
