New and Improved Literacy Centers for Emergent Readers
Funded Jan 6, 2018Thank you for helping to fund my projects to further my students levels in reading. So far the literacy activities that you have helped to provide have made reading time a more enjoyable and focused block of time. Each day my students use these activities as a center where they learn about beginning, ending, and middle sounds, as well as rhyming, syllables, and other skills that help them be better readers. These activities are fun and give the students practice with phonemic awareness and phonics to help them learn. When the materials arrived in the classroom my students were blown away. Many of them stood up and "ooed and awwed" at the materials as I unveiled each one. The beautiful packaging and intriguing designs made my students engage with the materials immediately. At this point in the year many of the students re beginning to blend sounds in words to read, something that is amazing to watch. We continue to use the center activities to help get better at reading skills, and to move forward towards first grade.”

If You Give a Kindergartener a Tablet
Funded Nov 11, 2017The donations that you contributed to my classroom have been helping my students to make tremendous growth in their understanding of phonemes and sounds in words. The tablets have allowed students to work with apps that are more tailored to their individual learning during their center time. My students have grown up in a time where technology runs their lives and before these donations, they did not have any to benefit from in the classroom. With these tablets I have been able to download programs that practice the alphabet, segmenting the sounds in words, blending sounds to read words, and writing letters. These apps have given the students an engaging way to practice skills they need to move forward in their learning.
These tablets are exciting for my students because they are doing so much learning without even realizing it. I love to see my students engaged and excited to go use the tablets while knowing that it is an independent activity that is furthering them along to the goal of reading.
In particular there are a few students that have really benefited from the tablets. I have one student who has made progress learning some of his letters and identifying their names and their sound. This is extremely important for him to be able to eventually apply those concepts into reading skills. I am so proud of the improvements my students have made and I am so grateful for your donations and help.”
