In 5th Grade, we take part in a study on Human Rights and how it has impacted people around the world. We dig in deep, exploring the text of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, read together a fiction story of a young immigrant girl from Mexico who moves to California in "Esperanza Rising," and read non-fiction stories of immigrants all of the world through book clubs. Finally, students will interview friends, family, and teachers who also have immigrant experiences and stories to tell. Your donation would help young students have a first hand experience of interviewing immigrants who came to America to create a better life for themselves and their families! Each student will create and ask questions that will help tell the stories of their interviewees, use their research to write articles about the person they interviewed, and finally share these stories in a classroom newspaper with our school, families, and the local library. Thank you for making our dreams, and those whose stories we are telling, come true!
