The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my classroom. My classes use cooperative learning methods to share and learn. Students use whiteboards to write down answers on pair coaching activities, or on a timed brief written answer before sharing orally with the students of their pod, or even during a board practice for checking understanding in a whole class activity. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last. Students easily consume 20 dry erase markers a week, and we never have enough, it has become too much frustration for all, and a huge waste. By having boogie boards, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning! By donating to our project, you will both help to increase student attention and performance in a new inventive and creative way. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not worry about finding a dry erase marker that works. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
