My students already have a passion for reading and an understanding of critical thinking skills. In my classroom we use the library daily for both individual and group work. Having both fiction and nonfiction leveled books would give my students the opportunity to deepen their love of reading and strengthen their critical thinking skills on a daily basis. Nonfiction books are used in guided reading groups. Fiction books make great additions to independent book bags during 'drop everything and read' time and both classroom sets support whole class mini lessons during readers workshop as well as evidence based writing during Writers workshop.
