The Eagle Readers Book Club works on a variety of levels. The books purchased will be available for readers to select for that month. They are on a variety of topics so students will be able to find some that interest them. Students and staff members partner up to read together each week. As they meet to discuss the book they selected at the book club meeting, they are building relationships. Students look forward to the monthly meetings to select books and to the weekly meetings with their reading mentors. Students who have meaningful relationships at school, do better. As students read about characters who may be similar or very different from themselves, and discuss the stories, they are learning about the world and developing empathy for others. Reading is a great way to have experiences and see the world through the perspective of another person. Through the Eagle Readers Book Club, students are building their personal libraries because they get to keep the books they've selected. These books can be shared with family members or friends. Students see that their love of reading is valued and can be passed on tho others.
