These materials will help my students become more independent and help self-regulate their sensory needs. The materials that are more functional will help them become more independent in both daily life skills as well as in educational ways. For example, the alphabet cards will help our younger students identify their letter names and sounds. The sensory items will help prevent meltdowns, by helping students self-regulate their sensory needs. It will also allow students to use them in rewards systems as well. In our classroom, we use a "First Work, Then ___" model. Often times students preferred activities are things such as playing with play-doh, or drawing. They have learned that if they first work, later they get these sensory rewards.
