New Teacher Creates New Classroom

Funded Sep 26, 2017

My students are benefiting from the new beanbag chairs an incredible amount. Before the beanbag chairs, the students did NOT want to go to the library area and look at books. Now that there are bean bag chairs, they rush to the library and even SHARE the beanbag chairs! They are very interested in the audio books and headphones as well. The students ask to listen to audio books over and over again each day. A group of four will share the one book and all listen to the story together!! The alphabet stamps are new and exciting for the students. They all use them in the writing area every day to make their sight words and their names.

I was in the middle of a lesson when the boxes arrived with the bulk of the materials. The students were so curious what had just come (I wanted it to be a surprise) that they couldn't pay attention to the lesson anymore. We pushed through, and I opened everything up in front of them. They were as excited as children are on Christmas morning! The students were all asking to take turns to just look at what we got.

We have been learning a new letter each week. To help reinforce and review the letters being taught, I will be using the alphabet mats with playdough so that students can build the letters! This hands-on experience will be beneficial to the students because it will keep their focus and help them be more able to remember how to create each letter. I will be using the Preschool Prep DVDs to introduce and reinforce letters, numbers, sight words, and beginning sounds each week. Every time I show them something in the form of a video, the students are amazed and it keeps their full attention. It will help me give them multiple forms of exposure to the curriculum content.

So many exciting things are happening in our classroom this year!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Hamilton
