During a typical school year, my students have access to a classroom library full of appealing books in a variety of genres. As a literacy teacher, I also rely on supplemental materials like Scholastic Storyworks magazine as an engaging teaching tool during small-group instruction and independent reading. The pandemic has created budget shortfalls in many districts, including my own. As a result, funds for these types of supplemental teaching materials are simply not available. Furthermore, distance learning has creating a unique challenge: for me as a teacher in finding quality digital instructional materials, and for my students in accessing new reading materials at home. Through an online subscription to Scholastic Storyworks, I will be able to provide engaging and purposeful reading activities for my students while they learn at home, both independently and in small guided groups. Distance learning has required an extraordinary time commitment as I recreate my curriculum into a digital, student-friendly format. I am in need of quality materials that will save me any amount of time, and Storyworks does this with very user-friendly teaching guides and easy student online access. This subscription also includes printed materials that students will use when we return to school later in the fall. Thank you for your consideration.
