Thank you so much for your donations. It is because of you that my students will have their own drumsticks and be afforded the opportunity to learn to play percussion in this insane time. Once we have gotten a little practice under our belts I will be sure to share a video with you of the students Playing a song.”

Thank you once again for your generous donations. The tablets are being used everyday for various purposes. I have been using them mostly with the fourth and fifth grade classes. The fifth grade uses the tablets to help them learn to read music. It allows them to play games and use websites and apps to self check their knowledge of reading notes on the staff line. The tablets allow them to differentiate and work on different skills and at different levels to meet their individual goals. The fourth grade uses the tablets to help them learn the guitar. Again, they are able to work more individually at their own pace on chords, and songs. They can record themselves and see what they need to work on. They can choose their own songs and the speed at which they are working. We have also created a large music library to increase the students general knowledge of music content. The students have a very limited knowledge of music and we are trying to broaden their personal music library. Music is a very personal thing. Everyone likes music for different reasons be it vocals, instrumentals, lyrics, beat, emotion. The students are slowly learning what draws them to music, what aspects speak to them and discovering new artists.”

    With gratitude,

  • Without Music the World Would B Flat!

    Funded Oct 30, 2017

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our piano club. I taught piano club after school to 30 5th grade students for 7 weeks. In that time the students learned to read and play five notes on the treble clef and five notes on the base clef. From Middle C to G on the Treble Clef, and from Middle C down to F on the Bass Clef. Unfortunately we hit a snag when our funding was pulled and the principal had to cancel Piano Club. The children were so upset and I promised them I would figure out a way we could continue. We will be starting back up in March and continuing to the end of the year. The children are thrilled and have stopped me in the halls and in class every day to inquire about Piano Club.

The students are so excited every week to learn a new note or read a new song. I see the excitement as they are really learning to read and discuss music. They are extremely excited to have the chance to perform for the school at the end of the year during our Original Musical. This is the goal we will be working towards when we pick up again in two weeks. Our club meetings are going to increase by 20 minutes and this small difference in time will make a huge difference in what they learn each week. We are only working with 7 keyboards shared among 30 students. Hopefully by this time next year I will have 16 keyboards (one for every two children). Thank you so much for your contributions and what you have given these children.

Hello, My name is Brett. I am a music teacher in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. I teach music in grades K-5. We are a school with a large quantity of students and we are dedicated to building and maintaining a solid performing arts program. Myself and my co-teacher plan to be here for many years to come and have set in place specific goals that we want to achieve with each grade, as well as goals for those who will be starting with us from the younger grades. We have a good foundation but are looking for help in acquiring materials to be able to serve more students at one time, and to make our room a more welcoming space which the children anticipate coming to. We thank you so much for any support that you can provide in helping us, and the students, become the best musicians they can be. Sincerely, Brett
