Our curriculum has a STEM focus, so my goal is for students, who are not on grade level as readers, to receive intervention which will improve reading skills using materials that have a Math and Science focus. Our project selections are print and e-readers that can be viewed on-line or that I can project for student readers with titles such as Our Senses and What Makes Ten? As students gather to read a "just right" book, they will have the opportunity to explore non-fiction concepts in math and science that enhance learning across the curriculum. K-3 Students will learn vocabulary and experience simple text and graphic features within lessons centered on improving reading fluency and comprehension. The reading materials will provide the added benefit of supplementing hands on, experiential learning for math intervention as well.
