This project would supply a full class set of Chromebooks to my 40-student middle school classroom. In their day-to-day life, students see a rigorous curriculum that is entirely based on pencil and paper. Although it provides high rigor and deep conceptual development, my students yearn to see the connections between their world and the mathematics they learn in school. What is their world most filled with outside of school hours? Technology! Between cell phones, video games, TV, and social media, my students are immersed in technology from the time they open their eyes in the morning. It is not only a physical part of their lives, but a means of communication for their generation. It is imperative that we provide instruction to them in the mode that is most natural for them! With a class set of one-to-one technology, my students would be able to explore mathematics through Minecraft, Khan Academy, Desmos, math simulators, and so much more. Furthermore, it would allow students to differentiate their learning by skill level and interests. With a class size so large, it is difficult to do this with anything but technology! Classroom Chromebooks would not only change student engagement, but it would change their mindset.
