I am a Supported Inclusion Program Teacher for grades Kindergarten- 3rd at Donahue School in Holyoke, MA. Our program supports students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis learning in the general education setting. Students with ASD have a range of ability levels and needs. A common characteristic of ASD is difficulties with social interactions and communication. My students require explicit teaching of social skills; such as responding to greetings, appropriate peer interactions, identifying and regulating emotions, and self advocacy skills. The books and games that are being asked for will provide a creative way to teaching these skills as well as a fun opportunity to practice these skills with peers.
