A Variety of Texts For A Variety of Readers
Funded Nov 7, 2017We are so incredibly grateful for the library you sent us. My students will fondly recall the thrill in opening the boxes and placing the abundant texts on the shelves for years to come. Your donation has contributed to the success of so many exciting reading lessons. The variety of texts that were delivered to Room 15 shaped our lonely library into my students' favorite area of our classroom. Most importantly, the classroom library has engendered a love of reading in so many of my students.
The variety of texts has strengthened my reading instruction and has paved the way for many successful reading lessons. My students and I leveled the texts and sorted them into bins. Now, my students are able to choose high interest books that match their reading level. This is so crucial for their reading comprehension! In addition, I now have a wealth of beautiful books I can use to reference during lessons. I use these texts to model how to assess graphic features, identify key events, key details, main ideas, etc. every single day. In addition, the variety of books that Donors Choose sent are used as model texts during Writer's Workshop. Students have benefited as readers and writers as a result of the generous donation.
Donors Choose decorated what was once a lonely library with hundreds of high-interest novels and non-fiction books. Consequently, Room 15's library has developed into a beautiful space in our classroom. Students race to the shelves and constantly request to spend time reading in the library where they are surrounded by so many wonderful texts. When students from other classrooms visit Room 15, my students proudly introduce visitors to our library. The library has heightened the morale in our classroom.
Perhaps most importantly, the variety of texts sent to my classroom has ensured that every student in my classroom has the opportunity to find a book that is meaningful to them. Students who were once uninterested in reading are now excited to peruse the shelves, confident that they will find a text that speaks to them. Though the variety of texts has gifted my highest level students with many interesting books, it has most strongly impacted my lower-level students. Now eager to read, the lower-level students of my classroom spend more time practicing the reading skills necessary to develop in order to be on grade level.
In conclusion, the generous donation has positively impacted my classroom. I am so thankful for the library's assistance in my influential instruction. However, the most grateful recipients are undoubtedly Room 15's unique students. My 5th graders are proud of our classroom library and now have the opportunity to find pieces of themselves in the books they stumble upon.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mirich
