  • Construction Paper for K!

    Funded Aug 1, 2023

I am grateful for your generosity to our pre primary class at Yonkers Montessori. The students will be thrilled to create projects that align with our learning standards. This will also help with cutting and pasting skills. Working on fine motor is imperative at this young age level. Thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Barisano

This classroom project was brought to life by Kleenex and one other donor.
  • Kindergarten Carpet

    Funded Sep 7, 2022

Thank you for your generosity to our students. They were so excited to see the new carpet!! It honestly took me awhile to calm them down. It has been a wonderful addition to our beautiful classroom. The colors are rich and vibrant. YMA is a public Montessori School. The philosophy behind it includes a lot of hands on work. The children are out of their seat often working with hands on activities. Therefore the rug is essential for this learning style. Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to gather, sing, dance and play!”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Barisano

  • Getting Organized!

    Funded Jan 6, 2022

Our students are truly enjoying the ability of having their supplies handy. It has been a lifesaver as a teacher. They are able to start their work quickly and quietly without the clutter and fiddling around in an old fashion classroom desk. Our class is clean and organized and the sacs are very durable. Students love having a place of their own and being responsible for keeping it clean. Supplies, such as crayons and pencils are not lost as easily, therefor saving money over the course of a school year. Thank you for taking care of our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Teacher Barisano

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
