  • They Want to Dance

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

I am so happy to tell you how much your donation for our portable speaker has helped our dance team. We have been very busy throughout November and December thanks you, by helping us get the portable speaker. The speaker helps us in practice and performances. Thanks to our donors, we were able to perform at our local Community Center at Christmas, an RV Resort at their tree lighting ceremony, and at a local Rehabilitation Center. The performance for people in the rehabilitation center meant so much to all of us. It is such a special opportunity for our dancers to make a positive impact on others. The 39 girls and 1 boy who make up our team can't wait to go back and we have been invited to perform as often as we can.

Dancing on the team can really do a lot for students in 4th and 5th grade. Their year is tough, full of important testing and too much stress at their young age. The Dance Team gives students a place to excel when some don't in the classroom. It gives them confidence that will carry over into their studies.

We often have difficulties connecting to music systems at the venues where we perform. There have been numerous times when the music completely stopped in the middle of performances. It is pretty nerve-wracking to lose music while performing as a new dancer. Now, we can control the music. Even when we practice there are times when the system does not work in our practice room (our school's PE Room). There are times when we have to practice in places where there is no music system. We won't have to worry about music anymore. That is such a relief for us, the instructors, and especially for the dancers.

Your donation has given these dancers the freedom to dance wherever they can. It allows them to leave a lasting, positive impression on our community. It helps them to be role models for the school. It allows them to shine in each of their own unique way. Your gift benefits the dance team and our whole school.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Newman

  • Everyone Has a Place

    Funded Aug 25, 2021

We can't than you enough for your help in creating an orderly environment in our room. It makes a big difference when teaching students new to school spacial relations when they can easily look down and have a visual reminder. While most students learn this in Kindergarten, this group was at home for their Kindergarten year. They came to our school for their first year as first graders and had some catching up to do. Your generosity will be felt for years as each new class is taught to "stay in their spot". The carpet is a bright place where we can be together, yet each child has his/her own space.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Newman

  • Music To Move Us

    Funded Aug 31, 2017

We can't thank you enough for your generosity. Our new portable, music player and speaker has had such a wonderful effect not only on the Dance Team, but on our new after school Dance Clubs, as well. In addition to the Dance Team, I am now teaching dance to two groups of twenty students after school. Knowing that our music source is reliable in a place where there is never an extra minute to look for cds, or have them ready to transport to and from my house, classroom, and dance room. Nothing can get done, with our minimal amount of time, without the music we need.

The students in both groups were so impressed by the "high-tech" equipment! They are used to fundraising for what we need, or going without, or using a hand me down cd player that isn't reliable, never knowing if it will work for a whole song. The embarrassment of when it would skip mid-song was unbearable. The last thing these kids want is their peers laughing at them.

The Dance Team has been busy since November. We have marched in two parades and performed at the local Community Center, and at our school's Magnet Showcase. We will have a chance to perform at school during assemblies in February and April. We will begin working on a hip hop dance and a "dancing through the decades" dance project. All of this will be made much easier with a reliable music source that can use a usb to keep all of the music in one place.

Thank you for supporting the interests of these students. With your gift, more than seventy-five students”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Newman

My Students We are a Title I school with a high population of minority students, English Language Learners, and those from economically disadvantaged homes. Over 75% of our students are eligible for free lunches. Despite the less than positive outlook for many of these students, you can do so much to make school a positive place for them.. You can help our students who live in poverty by donating to help them access learning in an environment that is inviting and engaging. My students are awesome and very creative, but they just need to be given the opportunity to shine! We are excited about being a STEAM magnet school in our county. Our goal is to expose students to problem-based learning opportunities that will cause curiosity and engage in a broad curriculum, offering them a range of new interests and challenges. The work we do in our classroom is centered around science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, which helps in building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. By having comfortable seating options, our students will be better able to collaborate, communicate, think critically, and be creative.
