  • Listening Together

    Funded Jun 24, 2024

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous donation. My students are absolutely loving the new listening center!

When I opened it up and revealed all the new materials, their excitement was palpable. They now have the opportunity to use the listening center during both reading and math rotations. With the ample number of headphones, multiple students can engage simultaneously.

During reading time, they can hear fluent reading while enjoying a variety of books. In math centers, they are using listening games from Lakeshore to enhance their number sense, addition, and subtraction skills.

Your support is making a significant impact in our classroom. Thank you once again for your kindness!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benson

Thank you so much for you generous donations! I will be able to use my new laminating machine to make new reading and math games for my students. My students are also going to LOVE the claw machine when they earn class tickets for classroom management. Again, thank you so much for supporting Oklahoma public school teachers!”

  • New Readers Need New Books to Decode!

    Funded May 17, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation to help my classroom get new decodable books! The support of the DonorsChoose community is overwhelming and I feel so blessed to know so many people that value public education as much as you do. Thank you again for allowing me to provide these materials for my children.

The need of decodable readers is so great, and this project will certainly help with that need. Some of the skills and lessons these books help me teach are cvc, digraph, blends, cvce and many more. Being a first grade teacher teaching reading is so important. This is the year they really learn to read and just take off. Now having these decodable readers in small group, I can really tell a huge difference it is making. Thank you again for your generous donation to my project.”

  • Bridging the Gap

    Funded Feb 7, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation! I can't begin to tell you what it means to these kids to have information at their fingertips! They are sweet, hard-working, highly intelligent kids who sometimes just need a little boost, and you are all part of that. Our classroom is a better place because of your awesome contribution.”

  • Document to Success!

    Funded Oct 14, 2020

Thank you so much for taking your time and resources to help fund my donors choose project. The document camera was not available to purchase so instead I bought hands on materials for my classroom. With the money I bought math and reading folder games. The reading games cover word pattern, word building, simple sentence structure, word patterns, and sight words. The math games are all addition and subtraction.

We use these games daily in literacy and math stations. I also got to buy some kindergarten literacy folder games that I will get to use at the beginning of the year. These will help students with beginning and ending sounds and phonemic awareness. The math folder games are helping students build fluency with addition and subtraction.

The students reaction to the material was priceless! They were so excited for all the new games they were going to have during centers. We are continuing to use the folder games and I can't wait to be able to use some of the games I wasn't able to use this year because we were already passed some of those skills. Thank you so much for your donation! We greatly appreciate it.”

  • Mini Scientist

    Funded Sep 28, 2018

I can't thank you enough for your generosity! I am extremely grateful, and my students are going to be very excited about the new hands on science centers. My students and I are so very appreciative of your support for education and creative, hands-on techniques for learning. We are looking forward to receiving these science centers. They will be a great tool as we continue to grow and learn in the classroom. We can't wait to share some pictures of us using our new boards! Thank you again!”

    Funded May 16, 2018

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations! I'm so excited to start the next school year off with all of these amazing read alouds for Rooted in Reading! I know my students will greatly appreciate all of these new books next school year. Thank you again so much! 😊”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Benson

My students are expected to learn multiple reading skills throughout their first grade year. Some of the skills they are expected to learn are reading comprehension, cause and effect, story elements, sequencing, author’s purpose, and point of view. I want to provide a variety of different stories and reading experiences throughout the year that will help them master those skills. Stories such as The Mermaid and Honey, Honey, Lion will help promote a deeper understanding of the literary skill being taught. Other requested titles Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion, Maddi's Fridge, The Great Spruce, Real Cowboys, Amazing Grace, Hoot and Peep, Penguin in Peril, and Jabari Jumps. I want my students to develop a love for reading and have the opportunity to explore different texts. A lot of the books I have asked for aren’t the typical early childhood books they are used to, meaning they are new and exciting to my students.
