Fabulous First Grade Needs
Funded Aug 12, 2023There are so many wonderful things I was able to get with this DonorsChoose! One of my favorites being my document camera. I love using it during math time to show whole group how to use manipulatives or any time I have a worksheet that involves cutting and pasting. It is so nice to be able to show every student at one time. Also if we have to do a virtual days, I will be able to easily conduct class virtually. I also received clipboards that have came in handy. During science we do a lot of moving around the classroom or outside to conduct our observations. Having the clipboards allow students to record their data easier. We also do a write the room activity during small group rotations. They love carrying their clipboards around to find the different clues. The tubs have made my classroom more organized, the building toys have added to my students morning bins where they get to create before we start the day, and the books have added to my classroom collection. All of these things have helped my classroom run more smoothly. Currently my class is reading a title we received, "The Wild Robot" and it has been such a wonderful way to end our school day. I would highly recommend this book. We are looking forward to reading the other read aloud books I received too. So many wonderful things I received, thank you again.”

My Book Smells Better Than Your Tablet
Funded Mar 30, 2023In my first grade classroom, students are exploring and discovering books. They are learning how to read and it is a very exciting time! The books that I received from this DonorsChoose included books that are helping to foster that love of reading. In addition to books that students can independently read, I also received books that taught poetry, develop social emotional needs, and introduced some diversity into my collection. The poetry books have been a big help when teaching poetry in my classroom because they give the students real life examples to look back through when we do reading time. One of my small group rotations is independent reading time and having these books that they can explore independently helps them grow in their reading journey. Adding additional books is such a blessing to my classroom. Again, thank you for your generosity!”

Funded Nov 2, 2022First off, THANK YOU!! The items I got from this Donors Choose, my students use daily. Everyday we start off our morning building and creating. Their favorite are the Legos donated by you! They play with these Legos on the floor table that was also donated by you!! We also use this table for small groups or one on one help. I love getting to be on the kids level when we are workin together. The floor table is working out better than I imagined!! My students also love creating with the Squigz, K'NEX building set, and Bristle Blocks!! It is a great way to start our day.
Once it's time to clean up, students get to choose their seats for the day. I have a few different options, but their absolute favorite are the wobble stools donated by you! We have a rotation to make sure it is fair and everyone gets a turn. Our leader for the day gets to pick first and everyday they pick a stool. I thought the newness would wear off, but it hasn't! Their second choice is usually one of our cushions. The love having something softer to sit on all day.
The headphones donated have already came in handy! We have used 5 out of the 10 headphones already!! Headphones are necessary for testing and daily activities students do on their iPads. GOOD headphones are a precious thing to have, so again thank you!!
You would have thought it was Christmas when our Donors Choose items came in!! The students were so excited, but so was I!! Thank you for helping me create a fun learning environment for my students. It really makes the world of difference. I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart!!”

Funded Jun 25, 2022My students LOVED getting their building materials. Every morning we do "brain bins" where they get to build and play when they first enter the classroom. School doors open at 7:40 and we have our specials at 8:20. They have until 8:10 to design, build, and create. It has been a great way to start our day.
I change the bins out and they get so excited when I put a new material in the bins. We're now in the 2nd 9 weeks and they still aren't tired or bored of our brain bins. I do hope to get more resources such as Legos and other building materials to keep the brain bins exciting and new and plan on doing another Donors Choose in the future.
Thank you so much for donating to my class. I appreciate you so so much!! Fun moments like these would not be possible without your support!”

Funded Feb 13, 2022My students last year and this year absolutely love our alternative seating options! This would not have been possible with out you and I am deeply grateful!! My students rotate through the balance balls and wobble cushions. They each have their own bouncy band on their chair and most use it all day long. They do have the option to move it up and out of their way if they need a break. These have worked SO well on cutting down on tapping on desks or other fidgety noises.
We also really enjoy having our light filters on our front ceiling lights. They make the room a more calming shade and there is no longer a glare on our TV that we use to instruction. The students love getting to sit towards the front of the room in the "blue zone." I am ready to be able to order some for the rest of my classroom lights.
Last year when my students first saw the balance balls and wobble cushions, they were SO excited!! That newness never really wore off. This year my students still love it when it's their day for a ball or a cushion. We have a chart that shows whose day it is for what seating option. They love coming in and seeing if it's their day. It is serious business in first grade! Thank you again for your generosity!!”
