Second Graders Love Stanley!
Funded Aug 30, 2010I wanted to take a minute to thank you for the Flat Stanley book series you donated to my classroom. You have created a whole new group of readers in my classroom. Many of my students had not heard of Flat Stanley until the books came. Now, that is ALL they want to read! They want every read aloud to be Flat Stanley and cannot wait to hear about his next adventure. This is exciting to me as their teachers, because some of my reluctant readers now want to read! These books are especially special, because our school library does not have any Flat Stanley books, so they know they can only read them in their classroom!
My students know that later in the year we will do a project where they will make a Flat Stanley and send him around the world so we can find out new things about places they have never been to! Not only have you helped create a new world of reading for my second graders, but you will help them to learn about geography, continents, states and much more. They will also get to practice their letter writing skills they have been working hard to learn.
Thank you again for your kind donation, and for creating a new spark in my young readers.”

Classroom Needs New Cubbies
Funded Aug 30, 2010Your generosity in donating new cubbies to my classroom is greatly appreciated. This school year, my district, due to budget reasons, had to give up our class size-reduction. Our student to teacher ratio is now at thirty to one. Because of this, items in the classroom that I previously used for twenty students were no longer possible. The old cubbies in my classroom were an example. I had to find extra boxes to use until my project got funded.
My students were so happy when the new cubbies arrived. Because I teach second graders, many of them did not like having a cubby up high because they needed a step stool to get their belongings. Now the cubbies are at a height that is appropriate for their age. They are also happy because the new cubbies provide more space for their book bags and homework-no more cramming things into a small hole! Lastly, they were happy because they say the new ones looks much better than the old ones.
I hope you are able to take some time to look at the before and after photos. I cannot thank you enough for helping me solve a problem in my classroom, by providing my students with age appropriate cubbies for them to store their homework and belongings in.”

Ms. Chalfant
Crafty Second Graders Need Art Aupplies!
Funded Jan 29, 2010Hello! I cannot thank you enough for choosing my project to fund. It was like having Christmas in Spring when your package arrived. As I mentioned in my proposal, my school district, like most others in the Bay Area, has faced huge budgets cuts, and we only expect things to be further cut next year. Art is one of those areas that is first to be cut. While my school is fortunate to get the basics (paint, crayons, color pencils, and construction paper) we do not have funds to buy other items that kids love using when doing arts and crafts.
I make sure to do art once a week with my second graders. They were beyond excited to learn we received new supplies. They loved the variety of colors of the oil pastels, did not know construction paper could have glitter, and like having a safe place to dry their art, instead of laying it out on a counter or the floor (to name a few). We have already begun to use the supplies, which you will see in my photos, and the kids have already started requesting projects. Your art supplies have sparked the creative minds that exist in my classroom. Today's kids are under a lot of academic pressure, and they very much look forward to art, where they can relax, have fun, and produce something to be proud of. I am sure you will see how excited they are when you read their letters.
What is also great about your supplies that you donated is that there are enough to last me until next school year as well. So you will be affecting the lives of many second graders.
Thank you again.”

Technology as a Gateway to Learning
Funded Dec 28, 2009I wanted to extend a very heartfelt thank you for choosing to fund my project. The kids and I were just so excited to learn we were getting a laptop for the classroom. As I stated in my proposal, I was looking for a laptop to use in several ways in the classroom. Having a laptop will allow me to show PowerPoint presentations and demonstrate Internet and computer usage on the big screen while using a document camera and projector. The laptop will also allow a portable computer for students to use at their individual desks. They can watch educational movies they may have missed while being out of class, type writer's workshop stories when other computers are in use (or out of commission), and play the occasional game.
Because you chose my project to fund, my students are able to have modern technology in their classroom. The kids were so excited to hear we were getting a laptop. They even want to take it on field trips. We already have our first project lined up: we are going to use the computer to research places to visit in California for a pen pal project we were sent from another second grade class in Utah. Many of the students in my class have not had the opportunity to travel, and are unaware of the famous and beautiful spots California has. The laptop will allow us to surf the web together on the big screen. I am sure when you read their thank you letters, you will see how much they appreciated your gift. What is also so great about funding this classroom project is that it will also have a positive impact on my future classrooms for years to come.
So thank you again for your generosity. It must feel great knowing you support education and have made an impact on our children. ”

Contribute a Gathering Area for Literacy
Funded Dec 21, 2007I was so excited to open my e-mail and learn that my carpet project has been funded. I struggle on a daily basis to get my students to sit in an appropriate place on our "carpet" and cannot wait to finally have a carpet space for them to visually see. Now the boundaries of where to sit will be seen, and my classroom will be a cozier place. Thank you so much for choosing to fund this project. Now reading, singing songs, and shared reading will be much more fun! Happy Holidays.
Sincerely,
Christ”

Rock On!
Funded Jun 5, 2007I just wanted to send you a personal thank you for choosing to fund my project. My kids this year just absolutely loved learning about rocks and soil, and I know that had I had these materials this year, their learning would have been that much greater. I can not wait to use these materials to teach my unit next fall. The resources you have chosen to fund will bring real life into the lives of my needy second graders.
Thank you again!
Sincerely,

Contribute to a Leveled Library!
Funded Apr 8, 2007I am writing to give you a sincere thank you for funding these reading materials to my classroom. Building up a leveled non-fiction library is a hard thing to do because the reading levels of my students change so drastically over the years, and it does take a toll on my wallet. Many children will now have easier access to reading, and writing stories. Thank you so much for your donation.
Sincerely,
Miss Christy ”
