It's a Good Day for Great Books!
Funded Mar 30, 2023Thank you so much for the books. I will use some of the books to teach Socio-emotional lessons in our class. These books will give students ideas about how to show kindness and empathy. I plan to read "My Teachers Likes to Say" towards the end of they year. This is a great opportunity for me to find out what words stuck with my students and what they will remember. This is often a very reflective tool for me as a teacher.
The novels will be added to my classroom library. I already have students asking to open the the series "Theodore Boone" and to read "Ghost".
My students love read alouds. We love to discuss books and play a four corners game with open ended questions to check for comprehension. My students have also just started socratic seminar to help with accountable talk to encourage all students to participate.”

Funded Oct 24, 2019I can't thank you enough for these supplies. My students were so excited to open the boxes and genuinely grateful and to have these items to organize materials. In some of the photos, students reactions were captured and those moments are priceless. Pure JOY! I think the sweetest moment was when my teaching partner said she needed a notebook for a student that desperately needed one and my students offered up our one extra. This student was so ecstatic and was teary eyed when they said thank you. You never quite know when one small item a notebook, markers, folders will make a difference to one student.
My students are using their binders each day to put important papers in, fill out their planner to set goals, work on long term assignments and time management.
Before we left for winter break, we had several STEAM projects, puzzle challenges , creating crystals from Borax with expository text Snow from our anthology and finishing up our read aloud The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I look forward to the next part of the school year and am planning our next read aloud and working on some lessons to engage them to improve their writing.
I am very grateful for your donations.”

Funded Nov 2, 2017I can not thank you enough for donating to this project. We are using coding our SPHERO Robots with drawing and blocks. Students use the programs to move the robot. The students grasped the idea of drawing very easily and moving their robots around. We set up a small bowling alley and a maze that students could navigate their robots through. I challenged them to use blocks and program robots to do various movements. Later, we will program our robot to go to points on a coordinate grid.
Students are learning how to be patient, persevere and solve challenges together. Everything about the robots is new and thrilling. I love that this has sparked an interest in teachers, too. Many teachers would like robots of their own and are start programs in their classes. I want to do a SPHERO Olympics and have the robots compete in various Olympic like challenges.
Alek D. said,"He's never used anything like it. It's challenging and fun." All my students warmed up to this technology even though it was challenging for them. I enjoyed hearing the cheers when they completed a task or project. They all want to help the next group of students who join me for robotics in the afternoon.”

Mrs. H.
