As stated, my school is utilizing a curriculum called New Tech. It is a problem based learning program that focuses on the "how" of learning rather than direct instruction. On any given day, my students are asked to break up into groups of 2-4 students and work through a given math problem. An example of these would be designing a winter themed decoration, utilizing linear relationships to predict cost/profit, graphing the system, then creating their decoration. While my classroom is set up in a tradition way, my students need to have an area where they can collaborate and work as a group. By gifting my students an area where they can relax and work collaboratively, I expect to see the caliber of their projects increase significantly. I am seaking a donation of bean bag chairs so that my students can move out of their seat during project time, and have a comfortable working environment to share ideas in. To aid in writing, I am asking for 4 laptop surfaces to allow for students to lay and have something to write on. In order to complete the space, I am asking for a rug to add to the cozy feel as well as a place for larger groups to circle up. Idealy, I would love to have a home type environment in the classroom where my students can work together.
