In our special education classroom, sitting still is next to impossible. My students need the opportunity to move throughout the day to help with attention issues. Providing students the opportunity with flexible seating during a lesson will allow them to focus on the lesson, rather than focus on the need to move around the room. Students should be provided the opportunity to choose the learning space that best suits their needs. In our classroom, students are free to make choices that are best for them and their learning path. This project will help set students up for success by allowing them to work in their most successful environment. Students cannot be at their best learning potential when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day. Having inflatable chairs, donut balls, and balance balls, my students will be given choices for sitting and movement instead of an assigned seat at a desk. They will be a given choice, allowed movement, and given responsibility for their learning. These options allow students to move and think all at the same time. This will help my students with excess energy, improve metabolism, increase student motivation and engagement, allow better oxygen flow to the brain, and improve core strength and posture. Overall, having flexible seating will help my energetic students move around the classroom, work and communicate openly and collaboratively, while fostering creativity and critical thinking skills.
