As Pre-K teachers we nurture a child's love of learning by expanding on his or her own inquisitive nature. That is why we do everything we can to enhance their learning with play, songs, movies, and games! Although they love counting with an abacus and playing dress up like children did when I was in Pre-K, I have seen my students gravitate to phones, computers, and tablets any time they can get to them. It is absolutely necessary that every one of my students have access to updated technology like iPads no matter what income class they belong to. Our students are at a very vital time in their lives where it is crucial for them to gain not only Common Core mandated skills, but also, technology skills, confidence and foster a love for learning. This project is requesting five Apple iPad tablets, iPad protective cases, and headphones. The iPads will be used in student-led small groups in order to foster independence and confidence in their choices. Students will be able to choose from a list of educational apps to support what they have been learning during whole group lessons. Using the iPad provides practice and refinement of skills for students with poor fine motor skills and it is highly motivating, so students are more likely to stick with the activity. Utilizing the iPad and its apps gives the students an additional mode to demonstrate knowledge. I know that this project will change our students' lives for the better! Our students will feel special and most importantly they will have fun learning! Thank you.
