Our special education classroom has two distinct areas. One is set up as a living room area and the other is a work space. The students can sit in the furniture set up in our living room area. They vacuum the area and clean the tables in the classroom as functional skills work. The students preform work tasks, book work, and games in the work space area. Our students spend at least one class per day learning about job skills. We shred, recycle, sort, assemble, and clean during this time. Our goal is to prepare students to be as independent as possible after graduation. We work on a multitude of skills during the day. Our focus is on counting and sorting money/coins, telling time, reading community signs, using a calculator, and caring for ourselves and our own personal needs.
