Hello! My name is Melissa Placide! I am a first year educator at Pines Lakes Elementary. My specialization in exceptional student education (ESE) which is why I am teaching an Intensive Pre- Kindergarten class. Although this I my first year as an educator, I have been working with students who have disabilities for the past eight years between Miami-Dade County Public School and Broward County. This is a career path that I choose because I wanted to impact and make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities, no matter how big or small the impact. Because of my experience with this population of students, I believe that in order for me to effectively deliver curriculum and maximize my instructional time, it would be crucial and beneficial for my students to use iPads. As you know, technology has become a big initiative in the School Districts and has been valuable to all students especially students with disabilities. I plan on using the iPad for individualized instruction through a program called Teach Town. Teach Town is a program that focuses exclusively on children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental and intellectual disabilities and emotional and behavioral disorders providing them with the only educational treatment that has been scientifically validated: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Since iPads are so versatile, I plan on using them as a communication device for my students who are non-verbal and students who struggling with language.
