Culturally Diverse Reading
Funded Jul 19, 2022I can not express enough how appreciative we are for your generous donation in helping us receive a class set of the novel, Monster. Students in the 7th grade are introduced to literature of controversial topics and it allows them to think critically. This novel is set in present day New York City, which the students live each day.
Students usually complete independent reading each day at the start of class, but we will be completing our novel study shortly this year.
When students are able to read books that they can relate to, it raises their interest levels. Students have mentioned they are excited to read this book and we have you to thank for this. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

Ready for Middle School
Funded Aug 17, 2021Thank you so much for donating to my project. At the beginning of the year I was able to organize my students by providing them with a planner to help them record when assignments are due and any upcoming events or tests. With the use of the planners the students have not been forgetful and are staying on top of assignments.
In addition to the planners, I can't believe how many students need masks. While I did not get an extreme amount, they have been handy for the kids. Many of the students sweat through their masks, or they break throughout the day and I am glad I am able to provide them for the students.
My students and I are overly appreciative of your kind donations and we understand it is a hard time for many people during the pandemic and are very lucky to have generous people give to us.”

Funded Dec 27, 2019Majority of the books purchased for my students was the purpose of reading independently. I wanted them to have more recent created books and at various reading levels to help them improve in their reading.
Book shopping in my classroom sometimes took a while because students couldn't seem to find the right book for them. When students are able to choose a book they were mostly Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. While those are entertaining to the kids, they are at a lower reading level so they don't really challenge their skills. When students have the time to sit quietly and read they normally choose the right spot for themselves where they are comfortable and happy. Sometimes students go in the hallway to sit on the floor or to sit on benches we have in our bridge to the other side of the building.
When I showed some students the Harry Potter series, I can't even explain how excited they were. One student, when he picked up The Maze Runner he actually gasped and started "petting" the book. It brought a smile to my face to see how happy he was.”

Funded Aug 2, 2019I truly can't thank you enough for your generous donations. This printer has been a wonderful addition to our classroom. Many students do not have printers at home and many times they need coloring to differ what is on their page.
When providing students handouts and they see them in color, their eyes light up a bit. They notice it looks different and captures their attention. Many times students are not able to see maps clearly because they are in black and white.
Of the 60 students I teach, all students have benefited from the use of the color printer. Students are new to middle school and each class is on a color system. I was able to provide students with a color coded schedule to help them transition through middle school.”

Funded Sep 13, 2018I am extremely apologetic that my thank you and me sharing with you how these resources have helped my students may seem delayed. Once finding out that this project was funded, I was so excited to share the great news with my students. The resources that I was able to obtain with this project were provided to my students in both ELA and Social Studies class.
The novels that were purchased added a variety of books for my students to read and enjoy independently. Students were able to read a sequel to a previous book they have read, and engage in books that were recommended to them. George v. George and Shh.. We're writing the Constitution assisted me in teaching lessons from the NYC Passport curriculum. Not only was I able to create short response questions with the book, students were curious to read other parts of the texts.
Reading in my classroom is enjoyable. Students like to find a spot were they feel most comfortable, either sitting with friends or on the floor in the hallway. My students like to point out details in their texts to share with classmates. I have found that once a student returns a book, there is another student signing that book out the next day.
I feel my entire class enjoys these specific books, but I know my special education students enjoy the Social Studies resources more. We just finished our unit on the American Revolution and majority of these resources were used for that unit, but others were read for pleasure. Students were very curious when they saw the Great Fire text to see what it was all about.
I am very appreciative in having this project funded and for this organization.”

Funded Sep 27, 2017I am truly appreciative for all your help and support by providing my students with these devices. Once I saw that my project was fully funded, I was so excited that I was already informing my students about the new devices. I am sorry it has taken me so long to write my appreciation. I wanted to make sure I was giving my students the most support from these devices, so it took me sometime to set them up and figure them out. Id love to tell you and show you all the ways my students have been using them.
Technology has been a large staple in teaching our children today. Many assignments are now research and multimedia designed. Our school uses programs that require our students to use the Internet. That become a challenge when we don't have enough computers in the classroom, nor do students have computers at home. One way the students have used the tablets is by accessing our program Lexia that we use that helps with reading, grammar and spelling. In addition to using that program, my students have been also accessing Capstone Library that provides books for them at their reading levels and if necessary, they can be read to them.
Honestly I have noticed the students have been so excited to be the ones to use them that day. Its nice to see they take full advantage of the tablet to complete their work. Students have been trying to use other amazon apps see explore the device more, but I have made sure there are parental controls on those. It is still a learning in progress for myself as well.
While all students enjoy using technology, my special ed students I truly feel benefit from them the most. They seem discouraged a lot. When students go through our classroom library to choose a book, I have noticed some of my students go to a higher level bin because they don't want to read "baby" books. Sometimes they want to choose chapter books just like their peers. When I place the students on the tablet, they are in their own library. Only they know what they are reading. I feel they appreciate this ability to do whats best for themselves.
Again, thank you so much for your support.”

Ms. Fischetti
