Wiggle and Learn
Funded Jun 16, 2022My students and I are extremely grateful for your donation to our classroom. The flexible seating is a big hit as our resource room focuses on small group learning with differentiated instruction. Our flexible seating choices now allow my students to choose their seats and move around the classroom more frequently and have a choice to work at different heights and in different positions.
These flexible classroom choices have given my students opportunities to work separately or in groups in an easier setting for them. They were so excited to see the new bouncing balls in class for the first time! My students are learning how to share these items in rotation and has become part of a daily schedule and has taught them more independence.
I am so very thankful for the opportunity to give them something nice and new. Most of my flexible seating was held together by duct tape! I thank you, and my students thank you for extending your generosity to our classroom to help them succeed in their learning environment. We are forever grateful.”

Cool Tools
Funded Oct 26, 2017My students and I thank you so much for your donations. They have been practicing with the touch screen Tablet to assist them in their work and focus on their individualized learning plans. The Students practice with one on one math games centered around their strengths so they can build and they have thoroughly enjoyed all of the independence of getting to pick their own tablet that has their specific learning practice already downloaded into the tablet.
My students suffer from intellectual disabilities that affect the student's overall cognitive functioning and are better with nonverbal to channel cognitive functioning. These students benefit the use of visuals, concrete examples or models in order to learn a concept. Other students in my class suffer from health impairments due to cerebral aneurysms which causes long term and short term memory retrieval. These health disabilities impacts the use of muscles, have delayed self-help care, motor delays such as holding a pencil, walking, using a mouse to click and effects their ability to fully understand classroom curriculum. Therefore, classroom accommodation and modified curriculum is needed to be successful. With touch screens instead of pen and paper or a point-and-click mouse, tablets have been shown to be a positive academic advancement and is easier to use by students with fine motor difficulties, such as the students in my class. The tablet from Donors Choose have helped these students be more organized by consolidating calendars, doing DREAMBOX sessions with the ability to sit anywhere in the room, follow a math lesson or play math games without using a mouse.
Every one of my students have warmed up to the use of their own personal tablet. They are showing more confidence, and building on each others strengths. They are able to partner up or play math designed games against each other. One of the programs they like to play is called KAHOOT. They can play on the tablets, join live KAHOOTS from teacher made quizzes to play on their own or with their friends.
I love seeing them grow and express their knowledge through a device that is easier for them to communicate their knowledge of math instead of having to only use pencil to paper tests.”
