Please, Let Me Read!
Funded Sep 20, 2022My students exclaimed, "It's like Christmas!" when they saw all the new books. Their excitement could be felt throughout the whole school.
My students are required to read 20 minutes a day while finding and recording TEKS based expectations. The difference is, it's kid's choice on what they read. I have students that have never read a book cover to cover and now have. They are so proud of themselves, but the best feeling is hearing that they love to read again. When kids become comfortable with reading, it changes their whole outlook on school. They feel more confident and relaxed when reading any academic assignment. They become more curious about different types of stories and genres.
As a teacher, I use the books they read to teach theme, symbolism, summary, prediction skills, and even art. To be able to offer a various array of books allows me to connect every student to a book. To be able to see the curiosity and love of reading flood a student's eyes is the most joyous gift I could ever receive as a teacher.
Thank you so much for giving each of my student's the opportunity to truly love reading.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Montgomery Family Fund and one other donor. For the Love of Reading
Funded Oct 8, 2017Thank you so much for making the kids thoughts and wishes come true. They were so excited to see the Amazon boxes and know what was inside was their books. The smiles were incredible. They are reading, really reading!! They love the books and the time they get to find their book. As a teacher, my heart just leaps for joy watching them read with enthusiasm. They even hunt down who has a certain book and will keep tabs so they can check it out next. I have had to order two of some books.
All of this would not have been possible without you!
People tell me that reading is going out because of computers, blah! Put a good book in a kids hands and watch their eyes widen with knowledge, emotion, giggles, and love.
Thank you so much,
Ms. Forward and my kiddos”
