  • Enticing Technology to Increase Engagement and Success

    Funded Oct 1, 2019

I am so grateful to you for supporting my classroom and my students. They are all so excited to use the new technology! I have already utilized many of the pieces in my daily lessons and it is going great!

We are using the OSMO to practice our adding and subtracting, as well as for spelling and sounding out CVC words. They kids get the opportunity to use the OSMO by themselves, but also with a partner or small group. This is teaching them a lot of skills, one of which is team work!

The 3Doodler pens have been used for writing our sight words and letters, as well as for incentives for expected behaviors. The kids absolutely love them. They can't stop talking about them and want to use them on a daily basis (which we can't do because we need to read too)!

The Beebots have been great for math. We used them with addition flashcards and will be using them for subtraction as well. I purchased some literacy activities to use as well and will be implementing that this week. We will be working on rhyming, vowel sounds, CVC words, and missing letters in words. I can't wait to see it in action!

Overall, engagement is definitely up, which was what I was really hoping for. I look forward to continuing to learn about more exciting ways to include this new technology in my teaching!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopish

  • Integrating Literacy Into Character Curriculum

    Funded May 6, 2019

I thank you all so much for your generosity in helping me purchase all these quality books for my students. They align perfectly with the many character traits we are explicitly teaching our students with special needs. I now have my own set of books that I can pull whenever a teaching opportunity presents itself instead of trying to hunt the books down through the many different libraries. So much money has been put into our regular education classroom libraries but special education is left out of that and we have to create our libraries essentially on our own. All of the books I chose were excellent additions to my classroom library! I am so very grateful for all of your generosity! Thank you again!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopish

  • Flexible Seating Options Help Build Success!

    Funded Aug 25, 2017

Greetings! I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you how thankful my students and I are for your contribution to our project. The majority of children I currently work with are in 1st grade and have a ton of extra energy! When they learned that they would have the opportunity to chose from 5 different stools to sit on, they grew very excited. We have spent time talking about the rules and how to safely sit on one of the stools and I am happy to report they are being used appropriately!

Each time my students come into my classroom, they get to choose where they are going to sit in order to be successful. I ordered two different types of stool (all different colors), and I was curious to see which type was more popular. It was interesting to find out that every student prefers one type over the other, but their preferences are all different. Many students choose the stools over anything else, because it gives them the ability to get their wiggles out. Because of this, they are able to focus on our priority, which is learning.

As we continue to move through this school year I am excited for me students to have the opportunity not to just choose where they sit, but to really understand why one seating option is better for them than another. I want them to learn what helps them be successful within a classroom setting!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kopish

I am asking for wobble stools for my classroom so that I have a variety of flexible seating options for my students with special needs to choose from. The needs of my students continue to grow, and in order to keep up with their needs, I want to provide different ways for them to get their wiggles out. I have been working little by little to purchase different seats for my students, and this would be the last piece of the puzzle! The majority of my students have significant attention issues and are extremely hyperactive. I feel that giving them a way to move without disrupting others will help their brain focus on learning instead of trying to sit "still and quiet." My hope is that when these kiddos are taught how to appropriately use these flexible seating options, they will begin to have more of an awareness of their bodies and how movement can help them be successful.
