Beginning band students go through reeds like crazy. They chip, split, bend and crack. The worst part is that the students' instruments are useless without them! While I try to reinforce that my students need to treat their reeds like family members, it is inevitable that they are going to break constantly in the care of young musicians. Most families at my school cannot afford to purchase quality reeds for their kids. For that reason, I do everything that I can to supply reeds to my 22 clarinet students and 17 saxophone students, but I have run out of reeds to give them. Too often, I see students with so much potential unable to participate in band due to financial restraints. By supporting this project, you are allowing dedicated kids to continue creating, performing, and problem solving through music. Through this project, I also am looking to obtain 50 "pen pals". Pen Pals are pencil holders that can be attached directly to the music stands in my classroom. They will ensure that each of my 117 students can easily access a pencil at any point during rehearsal. This is necessary for writing in notes when needed, marking changes, and jotting down reminders. While I have plenty of pencils, they are always running off. If each pencil has a home, perhaps they will stick around a bit longer. My students and I thank you very much for your donation!
