To Sit or Not to Sit: Flexible Seating Options
Funded Sep 22, 2017Words cannot express how grateful I am for your generous donation towards my project "To Sit or Not to Sit: Flexible Seating Options". My children were super excited to see the boxes arrive and they eagerly waited for me to open them. When I did open the box their reactions were priceless. I showed my children how to use the cushions and the wobbly chairs. I passed the cushions around so each child had a turn to sit on them then children were called to the front of the room to try out the wobbly chairs. I explained to my children that they will get to use the materials throughout the day, as needed.
Since I have a limited supply of materials I taught my children how to use a timer so they can set the timer if they want a turn with the cushions and/or wobbly chairs. The wobbly chairs now "live" at my computer center and iPad center where children spend a lot of time working. Children are allowed to move the wobbly chairs to the table if needed. I have also noticed an increase in children visiting the writing center and most of the children who visit this center usually grab a cushion before they start their work. I have worked with 4- to 5- year-olds for over 6 years and I have never seen so many children gravitate towards the writing center until now.
Now that all my children have had the opportunity to use the materials you've provided, my next step is to allow certain children to use the cushions or wobbly chair during whole group instruction. I am hoping this will allow certain children to sit and be engage during whole group instruction.
Once again, thank you so much for your kind donation.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hang
