I was given the extreme pleasure to become part of the Bruner Elementary team this year. I am a social worker who specifically works with students K-5 who are in some type of emotional crisis. We are a Title 1 school and lack funds for projects like the one I am proposing. As you can see, my classroom set up is divided into a classroom like setting and a group/flexible seating. The goal of this classroom is to provide students a safe environment so their emotional needs can be addressed. I found many students enjoy fidgeting with items that will help regulate themselves so they are calmer, more able to focus and help regulate them so they can return to class. I would like to introduce sensory items into my classroom for students and use them to help identify coping skills and return students back to class.
