Our school is a reading and math preparatory school. This means that we put a strong focus on reading and math in hopes of preparing them for when they leave our school and go to third grade. These materials will help students to master the common core state standards. My students learn best when they are able to engage in hands-on activities. Students will be able to work with words and sounds by creating three-letter words as well as identifying the beginning sounds and ending sounds in words. Students will strengthen their sight word recognition by using common sight words in sentences. This sentence building activity will also help students become stronger writers. Students will be able to get a better sense of numbers for math through practice with adding and subtracting. The activity that I have requested allows students to manipulate pieces to help them visualize the addition equations. I have also requested an activity that will challenge some of my students so that they can get a better grasp on number by matching numbers to the visual representation. The donations to this project will supply the materials that are just what the students need to take ownership in their learning and experience success.
