As a Special Education Teacher, I strive to help my students feel successful while enjoying learning. I try to build my student's background knowledge, and love for reading and writing. I pick up maps wherever I go. We complete hands on activities as a way to bring the stories alive, and encourage writing. One year, I brought an entire Thanksgiving dinner into my classroom when we were studying the Pilgrims. We dressed up and reenacted the First Thanksgiving. Many of my students had never seen some of the vegetables, or eaten turkey before. Everyone went home with plenty of leftovers too! I would do anything to help my students learn.
I teach using a multisensory approach, yet it is often not enough. Each of my small groups consists of 6 students from grades 1 through 4. It is difficult for the children to sit still while learning and completing challenging tasks such as reading and writing. Because of these challenges, I am continuously encouraging my students while looking for ways to help them remain focused during critical instruction.
Wobble Chairs are developmentally appropriate for younger children. They allow for slight movement. This supports their need to move, and aids in their ability to focus on critical small group instruction. I care deeply for all of my students. I want them to feel successful and enjoy learning.
Thank you for considering to help me achieve my goal and help my students "Wobble while they work!"
