My name is Jordan Zotter (Mr. Zotter to my students), and I am a teacher at the fantastic Parkway Northwest High School for Peace and Social Justice. I truly believe in this school. We are a close community of slightly over 250 students. The staff knows all of the students, and the students know every member of the staff. This allows us to function as a true community where students hold teachers accountable to teach to their fullest potential. That is why Parkway is working to bring more Advanced Placement opportunities to our students. The AP English Literature course will bring college level material to 10th and 11th grade students that choose to take it. Students in this class will be challenged to think about complicated literature (listed below) on an advanced level. Students will learn new strategies and ways of thinking to access literature on a higher level. This will culminate in a major exam near the end of the year to show what they have learned. If students do well on the AP exam, it can be used as college credit. Essentially, this is a college level course in a high school setting. I could not be more excited to bring this opportunity to my students. As this is Parkway’s first year with AP English Literature, we need materials! It will absolutely increase student buy-in to the program if students are given quality materials with which to work. Books are not cheap, and the class will need one copy per student so that reading can be accomplished at home.
