Refreshing Return

Funded Dec 23, 2021

The students thoroughly enjoyed using all of the items furnished for the "Refreshing Start". As soon as the boxes began to arrive I could see the anticipation in their eyes and I encouraged them to be patient as I awaited the remainder of the shipment. First, I explained that we were still within a pandemic and had to take necessary precautions for each others safety in the classroom and beyond closed doors. As a classroom family our responsibility was to remain safe physically, mentally and environmentally as a whole. Not neglecting to keep our physical and mental needs at the forefront of our daily lives. Your generosity made that heartwarmingly possible and we are grateful for your contribution.

Picture a classroom with eyes open wide, arms flaring in the air as the sounds of tape, cardboard ripping plastic being torn and styrofoam hitting the ground was filled with smiles and chatter. The students reaction was priceless! Watching them assist me open the boxes and share the yoga/game cards, soft play games and cones, Connect Four games, masks, wipes, air purifier, being lined up for group play and the use of the aromatherapy gave them a sense of calm and enjoyment. They took initiative on setting the areas for free play. It was great to see them clear a special spot on the writing center to place the air purifier so they could share ideas. Writing was welcomed as they would ask to have a different scent to enhance the smell of the classroom and share how they felt calm, relaxed and more creative as with each new scent that was introduced.

Moving forward I want them to recognize that its not only about what you learn but the overall condition of the environment as well. Setting the tone to enhance and influence your experience makes it one to cherish. Sharing, growing and exploring collaboratively creates a "Refreshing Start" daily and these are tools they can utilize to make their moments much more meaningful and engaging. Next steps are for the students to share what we learned in our classroom with their families and decrease the gap of the home to school connection.”

With gratitude,
