  • Nothing Like a Good Read

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I am BEYOND GRATEFUL for these new additions to our classroom! The kids were recently able to do a brief novel study on Lord of the Flies as they learned about the importance and value of Order vs Chaos as we studied the struggles of the boys on the island. The books have also been teaching the students to pace themselves as they read for 20 minutes a day. Accelerated Reader is a HUGE program within our school and district, and these books have my students eager to meet their goal while simultaneously increasing their love for reading as they discover their own personal interests and preferences. They're allowed to read for the first 30 minutes before instruction begins when they first arrive in the morning, as well as when they finish their assignments while everyone is still working. Each book allows them to study different genes and alternate universes if we don't maintain or value the society we live in. I am extremely fortunate to be able to share these lessons with them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Veal

These selected books will motivate my students to read books that are of interest to them, as well as go outside of their comfort zones as they explore the different genres. Since these books are a part of a series, I want to plant the seed for them to pursue their reading past just 1 or 2 random books. With the beginning of these series, it will encourage them to pick up the next novel of the series and pursue the knowledge and information of their own. Ownership of these books in the classroom is an enriching necessity for my students.
