My students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are in general education classrooms. These students need much more than just academic support. They need specialized instruction on how to interact with their peers and how to make friends. Teaching students how to be good readers, writers and mathematicians are all pieces of the puzzle, but teaching them how to make friends is another.
Without a social skills curriculum, many of my students develop low self-esteem from their struggle to make and maintain friendships. This in turn affects their ability to be successful students academically in the classroom. What comes natural to most neurotypically developing kids, does not for those kids with ASD. Please help support students with autism and developmental delays by funding the purchase of Michelle Garcia Winners amazing social skills curriculum.
I was lucky enough to be trained in this curriculum when I lived and worked at a school for students with ASD in New York. I have seen how effective and what an impact it can have on students. Please help complete the puzzle with my students!
