  • Sew What Can We Do to Help?

    Funded Jan 17, 2024

I have no words to describe the gratitude I feel for the support of our Donor's Choose Community. This project is filled with love, and a pull to help children in our community experiencing trauma.

Over the last 20 years of teaching, I have worked with many students. When I run into them in our community, years after our time together has ended, the stories they remember and share are the ones based on love and personal connection. I cannot think of a more loving way to connect with our students than by giving them a life skill that can positively impact their future, and the future of those around them.

You have made this life skill possible through this community service project, and I am forever grateful. Thank you for taking the time, and financially supporting our project. We needed you, our community needed you, and you were there with your arms open and ready to help.

As each student completes their blanket, we wrap it around their shoulders and allow them to feel the comfort, warmth, and support that children will receive thanks to your donation. Thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feazel

  • Students Wobble, But They Don't Fall Down...

    Funded Oct 25, 2021

I wish there was a way to live stream our classroom when the kiddos opened the wobble stools! The joy and excitement on their faces was intoxicating. They were laughing, fist-bumping, and calling out which stool was "theirs"!

You have given them an opportunity to reclaim their classroom. As students cycle through our class, each day of the week, every one of them is able to make a conscious decision about the way they would be most comfortable learning.

Thank you so much for supporting our students. The impact of your donation will be felt for years to come, as these stools are high quality and very durable.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feazel

  • Will the Real Flexible Seating Option Please Stand Up?

    Funded Nov 6, 2019

Having flexible seating options in my class for the past two years has been a blessing. Students can lay on our yoga mats, sit in the bean bags, or wobble on our stools while working. When I first wrote out this project I had no idea just how many kiddos would also benefit from standing during our instructional time.

Each class, everyday, these desks are being used with a true appreciation. Kiddos who have been sitting for the majority of the day can stretch for as long as they need in order to produce their best work in a comfortable environment. The bungee ropes allow for continual movement as they stand reducing distraction and disruptions.

You have made our room an even better place to be, and we love it. Thank you for giving your time. Thank you for supporting our class. Thank you for giving our kiddos a work space that they LOVE!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feazel

  • Full STEM Ahead!

    Funded May 9, 2018

Your donations have given my kiddos the gift of independence! We have used the clipboards in all four grade levels. Second graders have toured the building finding real world examples of fractions, recording their observations as we go. Third Grade Epic Fails class uses the clipboards every class to dot and jot project notes around the room and in the hall. The calculators have allowed for our fifth grade Show Me the Money class to convert percentages into decimals and go "shopping" for sales, and find out how much they owe Uncle Sam for state/federal income taxes. Our fourth grade lost arts class have used the clipboards, and calculators to determine costs of supplies for art projects. And the biggest impact is still to come! Our Metrics in Science class begins in January. Each class we will use the calculators, meter sticks, timers, and clipboards as the kiddos create and run their very own science experiments. You have given them the tools to measure the Dependent Variable and move through the Scientific process and create amazing projects! Please know that I will continue to post pictures on twitter @giftedfeazel sharing with the world these gifts that you have given my students. It is truly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feazel

  • Sew What?

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thanks you for your donations, our Sew What class is going full force to create upcycled items with a purpose. The thread has allowed us to get all six sewing machines up and running at one time. Students have learned to wind their own bobbins, thread the machines, and troubleshoot if there is a problem. (To the point where we have removed the plates to clean and run regular machine maintenance.) The fabric squares have given us a variety of choices on ways to enhance our other textile donations, and come up with some truly unique items! It has been such a pleasure to watch students take ownership of these projects. To the point where they are bringing in more items from home that they would like to give new purpose and life.

As a teacher, there is no greater pleasure than seeing students become immersed in a problem, and stick with it until a solution has been found. You have given my kiddos the tools they need to be problem solvers! They are understanding how the skills they are gaining in this class can not only help them financially, but can also help on a larger scale by reducing landfill waste and their carbon footprint.

Thank you for your decision to donate, you have made a difference that will last beyond measure! These skills are forever.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feazel

  • Balance Balls, Yoga Mats, and Carpet Squares... Oh My!

    Funded Sep 18, 2017

Thank you for choosing to fund our classroom "Flexible Seating" project. It was my hope that these new seating options would give our kiddos a renewed sense of ownership of the space where they spend so much time. I can tell you that this project has done that, and more. When the boxes first arrived on a Wednesday, my third grade Epic Fails students were beaming ear to ear. Fist pumps and high fives were flying everywhere. The kiddos in first period even convinced me to borrow a hand pump from our nutrition teacher and inflate all six balance balls by hand! Each class period following had kids trying out the new materials, sprawling out on the mats, practicing their hula wiggles on the balls!

Over the last few weeks it has been so great watching each grade level take ownership and pride over their "options". One of the students even suggested lowering three of our classroom tables so that kiddos could work on the mat, and have the convenience of a table next to them if desired. Students are comfortable, engaged and able to do their best work focusing on the task at hand and not a hard metal chair.

Last week we hosted Parent/Teacher conferences at GALACTIC. It was such a pleasure watching parents enter the room for the first time since the funding of the project. With eyes wide and smiles from ear to ear many of them retold the stories shared at dinner tables about how Mrs. Feazel's room is so comfortable and special. How donors who don't even know us personally chose to make our room amazing! One set of parents relayed how they have decided to become donors themselves because they saw the impact it has had on their son.

Thank you for finding us, choosing us and providing this amazing space for my kiddos.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feazel

This classroom project was brought to life by Charles Schwab and 5 other donors.
Students today are growing up in a "disposable" society. Many products that they see on store shelves are single use items, that are tossed away without a thought once they have served an immediate purpose. Often times no thought is given to the carbon footprint being left by this trend. This class gives students the skills needed to "Upcycle" outdated, or unwanted, textiles that would have made their way into a landfill if not given new life and purpose. Students will be using a combination of hand and machine sewing to turn donated items into products that serve a specific function. We will take old jeans and make tool belts for our "Makers" class, dress shirts will be transformed into aprons for our "Cooking class, and old fuzzy sweaters will find new life as animal beds which will be donated to local shelters through our "Pets" class. The major focus of this class is giving students an opportunity to see that items that may be viewed as disposable by one person can be re-purposed and reused by another, helping our environment in the process.
