  • Posters for Health and Wellness

    Funded Oct 22, 2024

The posters are up and have really made our classroom feel like a HEALTH classroom. I quietly added them to our walls and it has been such a joy to see kids discover them. The biggest hit is the full size skeleton poster. It is so interesting to hear where each kid is coming from and can take away from a visual like that. Kindergarteners were really curious whether the skeleton was a boy or a girl which lead to a great teaching point about how everyone has the same bones in their bodies. Some older students like to show me the exact bone they broke using the poster. The other posters, which refer to mental health, have also been a welcome addition to my room.

I am always so grateful and astonished by the generosity of my community members. Your donations have made a big difference and really help me feel supported and seen. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucas

  • Model Skeleton for Health and Wellness Class

I am SO thankful that this project has been funded! This is going to be such an exciting addition to my Health and Wellness classroom! Not only will it be an invaluable learning tool but it will also be a great sidekick for my Health and wellness lessons. Thank you so much for your generosity!!”

  • Letter Writing Magic!

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project! I am so excited to get these letter writing kits out to my students! It is going to bring writing to life in a way that is difficult during distance learning.

You have made a big difference for my students and for me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

  • New Headphones for Third Grade!

    Funded Apr 22, 2020

Although these headphones are not currently being used by my students, because my students are learning online, I was so excited to see them in person. The quality of the headphones is great; they will serve many students in the future.

When we go back to learning in person, headphones are so essential during assessments and work time on the computer. Although we undoubtedly will be doing less computer work than now, it will still be so nice to know that all of my students will have a dependable pair of headphones available for their use.

Thank you again for supporting my students! You are making a big difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucas

  • Flexible Seating for Third Grade!

    Funded Dec 20, 2019

Our new seats are so exciting! I wish you could have seen the excitement as we unpacked the chairs and blew up the exercise balls about two weeks ago. One student said: "This is the best day ever!"

We had a class meeting to discuss how to fairly use our new seats. We decided that students will stick with their assigned teams and earn points to have first choice for chairs the following week. So far, the green floor chairs have been the most popular.

Students are very motivated by the new chairs and I have noticed that writing time is more productive than ever.

Thank you so much for your generosity with this project; my students and I are so appreciative!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucas

  • Whiteboards Rock, Can We Get Some More Supplies?

    Funded May 13, 2019

Please do not let my late thank you message be an indication of my level of gratitude for your support of this project. We use our white board supplies every day! They are so important for our learning and it is so nice to know that we have enough supplies to get us through another school year.

My students were so impressed by the generosity of "complete strangers!" and couldn't wait to get the new markers in their hands! In order to keep our white board tools in good shape, students are responsible for their own tools. That means making sure the whiteboard is maintained and cleaned regularly, ensuring that the cap gets properly placed back on the marker, and always knowing where their tools are in the classroom. When students need to replace a tool, they do a small chore around the classroom which helps them to understand the value the tools have for our community.

Thank you so much for making this project possible. It is projects like this that make me so excited and energized to do my job and teach the amazing people in my classroom!”

  • Students' Wish List for Books

    Funded Mar 6, 2019

Thank you so much for helping to fund my book project. I was so happy to bring the books my kids really want to read right to them!

When the books arrived, students were so excited. We actually had a book party for two days and you could have heard a pin-drop (after the initial excitement wore off) as students dove into the books they have requested.

There is nothing more exciting as a teacher than seeing students read books they love and choose. My students were humbled and so thankful to you, my generous donors. And I know my future students will benefit from your generosity, as well. Thank you for making this possible!”

  • Send Us to the Great Outdoors!

    Funded Sep 4, 2018

We just got back from "the best field trip ever!" Those are the words of many of my students after we spent the day exploring and hiking in Tryon Creek State Park. We lucked out with weather and were able to be comfortable outside all day.

It was so fun to see my students exploring and being brave in nature. One student at first refused to touch a beaver pelt but ended up kissing a banana slug by the end of the day!

We constructed animals from natural materials, listened to the birds, climbed a "mountain," and spent time with our friends and awesome chaperones who accompanied us. It was such a fun day and it wouldn't have been possible without your contributions to this project.

Thank you so much for giving my students this opportunity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lucas

  • Wobble Stools for Active Bodies!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

The wobble stools have come to fill a very important roll in our classroom. Every week student teams compete for points. Students are given points for following directions, working hard, being a good friend, and helping our community. At the end of the week, we total up the points and the two winning teams get to sit in the wobble stools for the next week of school! Students are very motivated by the wobble stools because they are a comfortable and fun option to the regular student chairs.

Students were very excited and humbled to hear that donors made the wobble stools possible. This was a big project and it wouldn't have happened without your support. I thank you so much for helping us.

Every time we wobble around on our wobble stools, we think of your generosity!!”

We follow a reader's workshop model which means that students have about 30 minutes each day for reading. I see students groan when this time is over...if they have a good book! You never know which book will hook a reader for life! Having choice when it comes to what they read is so important for my students. Imagine going to the library and only finding two possible books you can read... how disappointing! These books will enable my students to choose and explore a wide variety of books each time they visit my classroom library. Please help bring exciting stories and grade-appropriate reading level opportunities to all of my students!
