The College Readiness Coach Program seeks to pair local volunteer mentors with Commodore John Rodgers School alumni (current high school juniors and seniors) in an effort to prepare for the SAT and for their college applications. Each College Readiness Coach will be provided with a kit, which will include one of the highest rated SAT prep books in each area of math, reading, and writing. Books include Meltzer's "The Critical Reader," "College Panda's SAT Writing Guide," and "PWN the SAT: Math Guide." These three books are among the highest reviewed and have seen the best results when it comes to SAT score improvements. The College Readiness Coach SAT Prep Kit will then be used to prepare for the SAT in December. Each coach and student will meet for at least one hour per week to go over any area of weakness, which will be identified initially by a diagnostic practice SAT test. The coaches will use these kits extensively, especially once the diagnostic test has been given. SAT experts have confirmed that repeated study in these subject books has improved scores significantly. Improved scores will increase the chances of acceptance to reputable universities and to earning scholarships.
