Listening Center for English Language Learners!

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. The listening center has made such a difference for all of the students in my class, especially the struggling readers. The students were excited to see beautiful, new books in the classroom and they were even more excited to see the CD's that came with them, as well as the CD player and all of the sets of headphones for the listening center.

During reading workshop, students learned how to use the listening center and we now have a rotating schedule set up so that all students have the chance to use the center. During each reading lesson, when students have independent reading time, a pair of students will work together at the listening center. They get to choose the book they will read (class favorites have been Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Curious George) and they listen to the book being read as they follow along in the actual text. The students are able to listen to the book several times and then complete an activity of their choice to check for understanding.

The struggling readers in my classroom have especially enjoyed the listening center because they are able to follow along with and understand books that they would not have been able to read on their own. The students are also using the English Language Arts activities for the listening center that you donated as a part of this project, and they have been benefiting from them greatly. Your donation is making such a huge difference for all the students in my classroom, especially the ones who need the most support! Thank you again!”
