Listen to Me
Funded May 6, 2020Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students are so excited to use the wobble stools everyday. The parents were happy they didn't need to buy headphones for their students this year. Plus the students are loving their headphones.
The iPods are being used for our listening to reading center. They love being able to sit anywhere in the classroom and listen to their favorite stories. The iPods allows the students to choose which book they want to listen to and not have to worry about sharing with their classmates.”

Funded Oct 30, 2019Thank you so much for the wonderful donation! My students were so grateful for all the snacks in our classroom. It was such a great feeling knowing that no one would be hungry while learning. My students loved all the variety that they could choose from everyday. They were so excited when the boxes of snacks were brought into the room. They could not wait for snack time! I am planning on another snack project. We received these snacks a couple of months ago and we are just about to run out. This was a great way for me to make sure none of my students go hungry!”

Funded May 16, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations! My students use the new resources during our STEM centers every Friday. They love being able to code the different robots. I love seeing their faces when they try and get their robot through the mazes.
When they first saw the materials, they were so excited! They could not wait for me to open them and let them explore. I set up the STEM activities as centers so everyone gets a turn to try everything.
My next project will be to get some more coding robots. I would even love to get some class iPads to helps students learn coding in a different way.”

Funded May 31, 2019We are loving the new flexible seating in our classroom! Every week, I let the students pick a new spot since it's the beginning of the year. As the year goes on, they will choose the best spot for them and stay there. I can tell the difference the seating is making in the students' focus and ability to do work.
At meet the teacher night, the students were so excited to see all the fun seating available in their new classroom. The first week of school we learned how to use each and every seating choice.
We are very grateful to have these flexible seats in our classroom.”

Teach Me to Read, Please!
Funded Nov 27, 2018My students are using their new resources in everyday centers. I am using the stamp phonics activities to help with spelling words each week. The phonics blends activities are being used during intervention times to help my struggling students with skills they are lacking. One of my lowest students need help with short vowel sounds. We use the phonics blends activity to practice those sounds and help build fluency reading those words.
My students were so excited when they saw our new classroom materials. They are always so grateful when we get new things. They wanted to use the materials right away. I taught them what to do and let them explore.
Currently, my students are learning two-digit addition in math. I am working on a whole immersed classroom experience to get my students the experience needed to be experts in it. I am excited for the rest of the year and to watch my students continue to grow.”

We Like to Work Together
Funded Sep 23, 2018Thank you so much for your donations! I am so grateful to have these supplies in our classroom. The amount of team work the materials are providing is phenomenal. As soon as my students saw the new STEM activities they jumped right in to build. These activities have really helped my students learn to work together and problem solve.
Every morning before our school news, the students will get a STEM bin to explore. Ever since we received these new materials, they are the only ones to be used! The students absolutely love to use them! I am so happy to watch the students work together.”

New Year New Seats
Funded Aug 2, 2018We have 10 Amazon Prime tablets in my classroom. These tablets have many different reading and math games on them. The students can use the tablets to play these games or read the books that are on the tablets. One of my favorite things the students do on the tablets, is research. Towards the end of the year, my class does animal research projects. They use these tablets to research different types of animals and all the facts about them.
The cases for my tablets were exciting for the students because of all the different bright colors. These cases also help me differentiate between the different tablets. I will assign the tablets to certain students using the different colors. This way it will help me know who is using which tablet, if something were to happen to one.
I have some students who are the using the tablets daily to help them with their phonics skills. This is really helping them learn to read in a different way.”

Snug on a Rug
Funded Jun 1, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations! I was able to get my rug in my classroom before school started this year. My students came in and the rug was already there. On the first day of school, I had my students sit on the rug in their own square while I read the story, First Day Jitters. The students had their own space to sit comfortably while they listened to me read. When we finished the story, we made jitter juice. The students were able to sit in their square while they drank the juice.
Some of the students in my class this year, were in my class over summer for summer school. When these students saw the rug in my classroom on Meet the Teacher night, they were instantly excited! They were asking me questions about when I got the rug and how I got it so quickly. I was so excited to share how I got the rug through DonorsChoose.
My next step for my classroom is continuing with flexible seating and getting technology in the hands of my students. I hope to add more comfortable places for my students to work in my classroom.”

Every Child Deserves the Chance to Read
Funded Feb 7, 2018Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. My students love our new supplies. Their favorite items are the testing folders. They love to use them for every test or quiz we take. The students call them, "offices". Every Friday, we take a spelling test. I have to choose the students who get to use the offices that week because everyone wants one.
When they first saw the boxes come in, they were so excited to see what new materials would be joining our classroom. As I was opening the boxes, their faces lit up. They were so happy to finally have the privacy shields they need for test taking.
The next step I am planning, is for more technology in my classroom. We currently have 5 computers and 4 Amazon Fire Tablets. I am writing a Donors Choose project to get two new iPads and coding robots to use in our classroom. This will help bump up the technology to 11 different resources. I am hoping one day to get enough for every student to use their own. Right now I am working on bringing our supply up two at a time. Again, thank you so much for your donations!”

This classroom project was brought to life by The First Million Fund and 5 other donors.Give Me the Tools and I Can Read!
Funded Nov 18, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donations! My students are loving the new colorful additions to our classroom! Now that we have these book bins, my students can easily find a book at their reading level! Just yesterday I was working with a reading group. One of my students finished reading their book early. I was easily able to tell that student to go grab the yellow bin and pick a book to read while they waited. The students no longer have to search through all different books just to find their level.
When the custodian brought the boxes in, my students were so surprised! I did not tell them that I had ordered these bins. As I was taking the bins out of the boxes, their faces lit up. They were so excited to see all the bright colors. My students came right up to the boxes to help me unpack them. They were ready to seperate the books into the different bins.
Right now I am working with my students to self monitor themselves as they read. Now that they have books at their own levels, they will easily be able to do this on their own. The students can even challenge themselves by choosing a book one level higher than their reading level. I am very excited to see my students become more independent readers.”
