I would provide my students with sensory items such as wiggle seats and chewy oral motor necklaces in order to help them to regulate their physical needs. This is researched and proven to help special needs students to calm themselves down when in a dysregulated state. It helps them to play with peers, focus on academics, participate in life-skills activities such as going to outings with family and friends. This would help to engage our students in life skills activities within the community that would help not only our students, but the community at large. Our rural community would highly benefit from our students being able to participate actively in life-skills activities.
